FLIGHT Cantilever Guide
Details, Specs, and Installation
FLIGHT Cantilever delivers modern design with surprisingly straightforward installation that's incredibly rigid, providing long-lasting durability and a rock solid feel beneath your feet . Everything is designed to mount directly to the face of the wall, which means you can use the framing that's already there and leave existing wiring in between the studs.
Viewrail provides the custom template for your steel mounting brackets, and easy-to-follow instructions. For builders and installers with more than one install, the process is standardized, repeatable, and easy to learn.
Installation
What follows are the basic steps for installing your FLIGHT Cantilever and Vedera glass systems. When you receive your systems, they'll come with step-by-step instructions, customized to your project.
1. Prepare the wall
Start by adding 1 3/4" LVLs on either side of each wall stud, then use L brackets at the top and bottom to tie the LVLs to the framing.
Next you'll mount the wall plate template, starting with the first tread location on the bottom-most run.
Use the wall plate template to add the aluminum brackets, which will provide additional surface to tie the mounting brackets to during installation.
2. Mount the wall plates
Rest each steel plate on top of the plywood template and screw the plate to the wall with eight to ten fasteners.
Each mounting plate contains many slots so you can accurately place your bolts into both the wood framing and aluminum angle brackets.
3. Attach the tread arms
Next, you'll attach the tread to the wall plate by threading the bolts into pre-tapped holes. Once complete, mount the tread arm assembly to the top of the inner arm. This will slide back and forth so you can adjust the tread arm length to match the tread width on your prints.
4. Build out the wall
Install floor-to-ceiling AdvanTech Subflooring to bring the wall flush with the mounting brackets. This also adds rigidity to the wall to support the entire system.
Build up the wall again with full sheets of plywood, which ties the furring strips to the AdvanTech subfloor.
Add 1/2-inch furring strips to build up the wall past the bolts.
Finally, add your 3/8-inch drywall for a super nice finish that hides all brackets, bolts, and welds.
5. Install the Wood Treads
Ensure each tread is perfectly level before installing the wood treads, adjust bolts located on the underside of the steel treads to change the pitch of each step individually.
The wood treads fit right over the tread pan with miter-locked corners. Bring the two tread pieces together, glue and clamp them, then install lighting (if applicable) in the provided LED route.
6. Install the Glass Railing
The final step is to install your Vedera railing, strengthens the entire system, and install the end caps.
