The Cost and Value of Viewrail Floating Stairs

A FLIGHT system is a great investment into your home's style, design, and value. Of course, it's important at the outset of your project to determine costs, budget, and where to prioritize spending.

We break down the value of a FLIGHT system, then give numbers to help you narrow down your options based on budget, style, and design.

The Value of FLIGHT

Why Doing It All in-House Makes a Huge Difference

Sourcing high-quality lumber for treads. Contracting a metal fabricator to weld a steel stringer on-site. Hiring a glazier to cut and install a glass railing. These steps and more have been a standard part of installing custom, high-end floating stairs in a home for years. Viewrail made it a seamless experience, all while keeping things custom.

With Viewrail, the value isn’t just in high-end stairs and railing, it’s in being a single source for the design, engineering, manufacturing, and delivery of those stairs and railing. Everything is made right here in America, and shipped directly to your door.

The 3% Rule

How Much Value Your Stairs Add

A general rule of thumb for stair costs is that Viewrail floating stairs tend to account for around 3% of a home’s market value. For example, in a $10 million home, which prioritizes stairs and railing as a central design feature, the stair and railing system may be valued at approximately $300K. For a $1 million home, more like $30K.

This guideline isn’t a hard and fast rule, and every build or remodel is unique. A central staircase that will help define the look of a home may be valued differently than a stair to the basement. Over the years, however, we’ve found it to be a helpful starting point for budgeting, as you can compare the cost to the potential value of what you’re buying.
